UAE residents can start making plans for the next long weekend, with the Emirates Astronomy Society projecting that the highly anticipated Eid Al Adha holiday will fall in mid-June.

According to the astronomical calculations, Arafat Day is expected to be observed on Sunday, June 16, with Eid Al Adha celebrations kicking off the next day on Monday, June 17. This would mean a three-day public holiday from June 17-19 can be expected.

However, as is the norm with Islamic holidays, the final confirmed dates for the Eid Al Adha break will be announced closer to the time based on the official sighting of the new moon in the UAE.

The Eid Al Adha holidays will mark the third and fourth public holidays for UAE residents in 2024, following the New Year’s Day break on January 1 and the recent five-day break for Eid Al Fitr in April.

Here’s a look at the remaining public holidays expected in the UAE for 2024

  • June 16: Arafat Day (subject to moon sighting)
  • June 17-19: Eid al-Adha (subject to moon sighting)
  • July 7: Islamic New Year
  • September 15: Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday
  • December 2-3: National Day

With a summer break on the horizon, followed by several more public holidays spread out over the remainder of the year, residents are advised to start planning vacations, staycations and get-togethers well in advance.

The UAE Cabinet had announced the public holiday dates for 2024 back in December 2023, with a total of 14 days off for private and public sector employees.
